The left has reached full volume in its attacks on U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley over $52,000 drapes at her official residence in New York that were purchased by taxpayers.

Student activist David Hogg is demanding she resign.

Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., is furious, insisting on an investigation.

It’s all because of a New York Times headline: “Nikki Haley’s View of New York is Priceless. Her Curtains! $52,701.”

The only problem is that the curtains were ordered under the Barack Obama administration.

Nikki Haley had “nothing” to do with them, which the article points out.

Hogg was particularly off base:

“Dear Nikki Haley,” he wrote. “There are starving children in America everyday and you have the audacity to misappropriate thousands of tax dollars for your own lavish lifestyle. Resign immediately sincerely, America.”

A post on the Twitter news curation site Twitchy asked, “Who wants to tell him?”

Which was followed by a tweet from sarainitaly to Hogg: “Are you ever right about ANYTHING? Perhaps you need to resign from the public stage, and spend more time reading and learning… Apartment – Leased in 2016 by Patrick Kennedy, top official at St Dpt during Obama admin. Curtains – Purchased by Kennedy, in ’16, during Obama admin.”

Jeff Goldman tweeted: “BREAKING: David Hogg goes snarky, revealing he didn’t read the sixth paragraph of the article he seems so upset about. ‘A spokesman for Ms. Haley said plans to buy the curtains were made in 2016, during the Obama administration. Ms. Haley had no say in the purchase, he said.'”

Twitchy noted a “not-so-minor detail that was buried within” the Times story was that money was spent in 2016, when Obama was still president and Samantha Power was the U.S. ambassador to the U.N.

“However, that didn’t stop the media from latching onto the Nikki Haley angle. Others are pointing out the terribly misleading headline that even members of Congress, such as Rep. Ted Lieu, have been using to slam Haley.”

Lieu wrote: “This is not okay. As a Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committtee, I call on @HouseForeign Chairman @RepEdRoyce to hold an oversight hearing on @StateDept spending on @nikkihaley and her deputy.”

Commented Twitchy: “Hey, it’s fun to blame Nikki Haley for that gross expense so in true NYT fashion that’s exactly what they did.”

About Lieu?

Twitchy: “HA HA HA HA HA. Oh, California. Never change.”

Hours later, the Times admitted the mistake and said the original headline “created an unfair impression about who was responsible….”

It admits the purchasing decisions were make “during the Obama administration, according to current and former officials.”
