(LOHUD) — Mount Vernon police are trying to determine who stuffed latex gloves into the gas tanks of more than two dozen city trucks, an act of sabotage that delayed the Department of Public Works’ snow removal efforts for a few hours.

Workers had to remove the gloves and pieces of latex from the tanks of 16 garbage trucks and 13 snow plows at the DPW garage and yard on Canal Street as a winter storm moved into the region. There were so many trucks the Westchester County had to send its mobile repair unit to help clean out the tanks.

Mayor Richard Thomas called the sabotage “a direct act of intimidation” to try to disrupt the city’s response to the storm.
